The District of Makanak Band has endeavored to reshape the global mindset around the importance of education and development of indigenous people(s). We have:
We partner with prominent researchers and publish reports that have encouraged governments and institutions to change course and improve outcomes for the indigenous around the world
We’ve built enduring relationships with world-leading foundations who share our vision, political influencers with the power to make a difference and pioneering community groups delivering real change on the ground.
We shall campaign tirelessly to shift the global mindset around the importance of indigenous self-determination and the funding it deserves. We shall generate valuable evidence and engender real change at the highest political levels unlocking billions of dollars in funding.
From annual historic youth horseback rides by and for the Lakota Sioux on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation, to the annual Ancestors’ Day & Youth Pow Wow by and for the Makanak Band; from supporting psychosocial support for displaced survivors of domestic violence, to food, health and shelter programs the District is proud to be agile, innovative and bold in our approach.
From the launch of the very first Makanak Band living / healing village location, we’ve been working toward a single vision: a world where no indigenous person goes through a life journey alone or unprepared. In order to turn this vision into reality, we’ve made it our mission to build bridges of care and communication providing love and support on a health path.
The District of Makanak Band has made it simple and safe to offer or ask for support when it’s needed most. More than 300,000 people use our private and ad-free platform every day. People around the world turn to the District of Turtle Island for education, legal aide, food health and shelter security and much more.
