CULTURAL PROGRAMS

The Makanak provides cultural programs to preserve indigenous traditions, languages and customs connecting past generations with the present and future, as well as welcomes those unfamiliar with the indigenous legacy.  The Makanak mission is twofold:

1.  to first educate the Indigenous People(s) and targeted underserved communities through programs and services focusing on traditional values, including conflict resolution, familial values, and respect for the elders, respect for gender, and respect for culture, including the medicine wheel philosophy, the Creator, language, and spirituality

2. to educate the wider public, by demonstrating the indigenous culture by sharing culture with the wider public and inviting them to the seasonal ceremonies, events, and holy-days with respect to the sanctity of the indigenous ways while also offering workshops that include survival skills, fishing, hunting, flint napping, and certain traditional ceremony demonstrations.
